Plant that Seed

Tuesday, September 01, 2020,0 Comments

God gifts us all with all kinds of talents and skills. Some are natural and some are learned. No two people are exactly alike, not even identical twins. We each have a unique personality and a different way of looking at the world. It makes it interesting to meet people when you don't share everything the same.

Today, I'm talking about planting that seed inside you. You are a gifted person made by The Lord and given a purpose for fulfilling your gift on earth. Even if you don't realize it, or maybe you feel like you aren't talented, let me tell you, you were born with talent and purpose for using it.

I was the same struggling to find my place. When I was younger, I loved to write, sing and draw. Somehow, I knew I was meant to be a creative person. Another hint was how much I struggled with numbers. I didn't like Accounting or Algebra. I'm glad I did manage to pass these classes after much tutoring, but I couldn't wait to go to a creative class like dancing or writing.

I know there is something you like or love to do and when you're doing it, it doesn't feel like work. It just feels natural to you and you enjoy it. Start with that and talk to Jesus about it. There's room for all of us to work in the harvest (Matthew 9:37; Luke 10:2).

So, how do we use our gifts to further the kingdom of God? A good place to start is praying to God and asking Him how you can use your talents for Him. Believe me, He will show you a place to serve.

I went to a church for many years and there didn't seem to be a place for my gifts, but I kept believing that someday He would show me. Years later, in a different church and definitely before the pandemic, I was able to sing and worship in dance every Sunday service, create and design crafts, greeting cards for the women's ministry, and act in skits.

God also gave me this blog to share my thoughts and improve my writing.

The worse thing you can do with a gift is hide it. If you get a seed to plant that will grow an herb, you don't put it away in a drawer, you plant it in soil and you water it. You give it the nutrients it needs which might be a little or a lot of sunlight and eventually, it turns into a beautiful plant!

And, when we plant and water the seeds God has put inside us, our gifts will also grow a harvest that will encourage, uplift, and even stand in the gap for a person that may need help at a crucial moment in their life.

I received many compliments in church when they saw me singing and dancing praising The Lord. I wasn't aware that anyone would even be watching me. But, someone was and they got encouraged. So, don't feel like your gifts aren't important and don't hide behind it out of fear or some other reason.

We are all needed and there will be people who will relate to you more than anyone else. God never does anything for nothing...if He gave you an intercessory prayer gift, intercede in prayer for someone you know needs a miracle. Or, if you're one that likes to help with anything that needs to be done, then do those tasks.

Just like the body has different parts but all work together, so are we in the family of God.

And, one more thing...do your tasks with excellence and let God show you gratitude. Don't expect thank-you's from anyone.

Remember, God gives us talents and giftings, not people. There are times when you may want to hear a "thank you", but if it doesn't happen, that doesn't mean God didn't see it. He sees everything we do and He loves to see us working for Him helping and loving other people, so don't hide that seed, plant it!

If you really want God to work through you, He will make it happen. And you'll never know how what you do will encourage someone else.
