Are We Living Beneath our Potential?

by - Sunday, December 30, 2018

I think many of us are living beneath our potential. We're put here with unique and specific gifts that God wants us to share with the world. Yet, we oftentimes don't exhibit them. A lot of it has to do with how we're raised, our own choices, who we've allowed to influence our behavior and even the friends we choose. So, we fall short.

Ever heard the saying, "what a shame, they never realized their talent", or "he/she had so much potential"....? Maybe it was said to you. Someone said that to me before. At the time, I thought they were being mean to me. But, I've had time to think about it.

What if I was born to do something really great? Suppose I had the potential to be a concert musician or a famous writer? Maybe a pro athlete or a sing in a large mass choir? Whatever our purposes are when we were born, it doesn't mean we have to stay in a place of stagnancy not stirring up our gifts and using them to further the Kingdom of God.

Yes, we may have missed some opportunities, made some wrong turns but we can still make a comeback. I've seen many pro athletes go into semi-retirement only to come back to their chosen sport. Why? Some said they missed the competition...the action, others said they felt they had more to offer. And I think some come back because they want to ensure they reached their plateau so that there would be no regrets when they do end it for good. The key here is, they got back up and tried again. Why won't we? Is fear holding us back? Is it lack of self-worth? Do we feel it's too late?

Let me encourage you, if you're here IT'S NOT TOO LATE! If you can move around, it's not too late! If you have your senses working, IT'S NOT TOO LATE. Use this time wisely. We're coming into a new year, will it be the same ole same ole or will you take a chance and go for your dream? God gives us the gift of choice. We can plan to make it a phenomenal year and reach for our potential or we can go into semi-retirement and never realize what we could have been if we had only tried. It's up to you and me.
